Mmmm beignets…

May 31st, 2008

So I was dying to eat more beignets and luckily, I found a great recipe for them online. It took a long time to prep them.. the dough sat in the fridge over night and then in the oven for another 3 hours to rise today and then after rolling and cutting the dough, a further 40 minutes in the warm oven to rise.

Here are pictures of the process!

Waiting for the oil to heat up to 350 degrees

Dough is ready to go!

Mmm hot out of the oil!

Before adding the powdered sugar…

Mmmm lots of powdered sugar, just like Cafe du Monde!

Hot beignets

Nick and I enjoyed a few beignets with cold milk for lunch :) (the extinguisher was there in case the hot oil decided to catch fire!!)

Drawing Tablet

May 30th, 2008

So I got a drawing tablet. Finally. I took the time to actually focus on drawing tonight and this is what I came up with:

I hope you like them.

Everyone wish a happy birthday to my…

…car. It is so old today.

Congrats, Protege. You get to be SERVICED for your birthday! How about that, eh? Who wouldn’t want to be serviced on their birthday, right? Har har. Sorry, mom. I’m gross sometimes.

Guess what I’ll be doing tonight…

April 29th, 2008

Oh, the joys of pre-ordering…

It also came with all this other neat stuff (minus the PS3 game):

WOOT!

Uh oh, I’m nesting again…

April 26th, 2008

Nick and I were at Target tonight and some how ended up in the toy section (or I subconsciously made my way there like it or not) and we found this:

So we totally bought it. We can add that to the ‘retro toy’ collection we’ve got going. We have a See N’ Say too. I loved the toys I grew up with so I figure out little Kirk will too! YAY!

Sticking out like a sore Canadian thumb

April 15th, 2008

Sometimes, there are mornings when I wake up and love the fact that I am living in Maryland and am so close to the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and Annapolis… and Ocean City.. etc.

Then, there are days like today. Today is a day that slaps me in the face and reminds me that Canada and the USA are really really really different countries. Don’t let those Americans fool you.. we are most certainly NOT America Junior.

Today, I stuck out like a huge Canadian sore thumb. I realised that being Canadian is much more than having a funny accent (I don’t even say ‘eh’ or ‘aboot’ but I still have that Canadianess to my speech that is recognisable)… and I realised that it is much more than not understanding how to convert ml to oz, C to F, km to miles. etc.

I hate to say it, but I really do think I’m genuinely nicer. I’m mature, responsible, cautious, intelligent, and I know when to keep my mouth shut. I would go into more details but I fear that people who shouldn’t be reading this will somehow find this and, well, read it.

Let’s just say that today, I realised that girls here can be very uncaring. All they care about is themselves. It’s a miracle that girls like this have boyfriends and can get jobs. I wouldn’t date ANY of them and I certainly wouldn’t PAY any of them to do ANYTHING I had my name attached to.

These are girls who are 24 or 25 and still live at home and get pissed off when mommy doesn’t make dinner for them. It makes me sick. And before anyone gets offended, no it’s not all of you. In fact, I’ve met incredibly wonderful girls here who I am going to miss like crazy when I move. It’s just a lot of you here in the Mid-Atlantic… I have no idea what happened to you girls. You know who you are and if you have a problem, well, you can shove it up your over-privileged, spoiled, whiny, high-maintenance red white and blue ass, eh.

If you build it, they will come.

April 10th, 2008

So……. I officially declare this as the house of my dreams. I am so in love with this house, it hurts.

I want to build it somewhere.. I don’t care where.. I just need this house. I think it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen (and trust me, I think everything is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.. just ask Nick about how I act when we’re shopping…)

I think I would actually have the patience to save up for a house like this.. and do a lot of the work myself.. I really do think I’d live in it forever. A girl can dream, right? If I ever win the lottery, this house is going to start being built the very next day. I promise you.
